Chicago

June 4, 2010 by Kristina

We’re traveling to Chicago for the next several days and I’m all smiles! Confession: I’ve only been to Chicago twice and both times were just layover-style. This time I’m actually going to be breathing the air and everything.

Crazy.

I can’t wait to get away from the heat here in Dallas. Seriously, it’s predicted to reach up to 104 degrees this weekend and it’s just the first weekend of June; not even summer!

While I’m not particularly a huge vacation planner, we are doing a bit of sightseeing at the usual places: the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park and, of course, the Willis Tower. (Formally known as the Sears Tower.)

Oh! And we’re seeing She & Him on Monday is said park. We’ve also got some top secret missions in the mix, too. (No, not a wedding or anything, but some pretty BIG news.) I’m already missing my Spenc and Oli.

PS: I’ve had a crush on this Ork poster for awhile. Perhaps it will end up in my living room soon?

Nautical Necklace

May 13, 2010 by Kristina

I purchased this necklace by BROOKLYN Rehab after seeing it posted on style/SWOON today. I’m in love!

The funny part is, after sending out a tweet this afternoon, a fellow Twitter friend fell in love too, and ordered away. Alyssa at the Rehab sent me a message back and it looks like she sold seven today. Oh, the mysteries of social networking …

MHB redesign and a bit of ranting (sorta)

May 6, 2010 by Kristina

I certainly didn’t mean to take a three week break. … Well, technically I was actually working behind the scenes. If you haven’t notices, My Heart Behaves got a face lift! I’m not really sure if it’s a permanent lift, but things are definitely different around here. I designed a new logo that coordinates with Studio 67′s and used a different template, as I was sooooo tired of the one I selected on a whim, when I first started the blog in 2008.

Things aren’t 100% yet, (WordPress is confusing!) but it’s on the way to something great. Eventually I will even launch my portfolio site. One day, people. One day.

………………………………………………………………………………….

Moving on (literally), time is just flying by at a very chaotic time in my life. It’s good chaos, but still. It’s left little time to blog or read blogs. Boo! My parents have purchased a house in Ft. Worth, near a gorgeous lake and weekends have been occupied with helping them pack and move. They have a TON of stuff, considering the last time they moved was 1984.

And drum roll please! We are moving in two weeks to the old house, yes my childhood home, to do a bit of saving over the summer. Needless to say, I’m doing some major downsizing and purging and it feels pretty good to get rid of so much stuff.

It’s also been a lot of fun to find pictures from high school at my parents house, too. Hmm … I’m really going to have to spend some major time in front of the scanner soon. Another day …

Cinco de Mayo Sabor

May 5, 2010 by Kristina

Happy Cinco de Mayo! I cooked up some inspired grub tonight: a sweet potatoes/black beans/corn veggie mix with some delish organic chicken taquitos.

Seriously, at 270 calories for per pair, they are reasonably healthy and taste just scrumptious. Really, I can’t sound more like a commercial for PJ’s and you can grab them at Newflower Market here in East Dallas. Gluten free, to boot! (Recipe below.)

The charming embroidered tea towel was a present from boyfriend’s mother. It’s so sweet and lady-like.

Cinco de Mayo Sabor
Veggie Mix
1 or 2 small sweet potatoes, cut in cubes
1 can black beans
1 package of frozen corn
Half an onion, diced
Pressed garlic
1 Red bell pepper, cut in strips
Garlic powder, chipotle peppers, cilantro, cumin, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper to taste
Extra virgin olive oil
PJ’s Organic Chicken Taquitos
Avocado, sour cream are optional
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Boil sweet potatoes, until almost cooked through. Drain and chop. Preheat oven and drop in the taquitos to bake, following the instructions. Heat pan, while mixing extra virgin olive oil and spices together. Combine all veggies with oil mixture, cooking on medium-high until potatoes are creamy in texture. Slice avocado, add leftover pressed garlic, cilantro and lemon to taste. Make a gorgeous plate and feast!

Subway Tiles

April 15, 2010 by Kristina

There’s something almost magical about finding beauty in an unexpected place, like a subway stop. While I’m certainly no Leslie Knope, public art is something I think every city needs more of and ranks high on my list, just like parks.

…………………………………………………………………………………………

So it was fun to be lost on the Philadelphia subway system, way back when we visited in February. We somehow ended up below The Gallery, which was this mall right in the city center. The station was so gorgeous that despite the fact that we were kinda turned around and wasted something to the effect of $15, it was worth it just to see all of the colorful subway tiles. Just magical …

Summer Do

April 8, 2010 by Kristina

Oliver got his annual shave and a haircut last week over at the Petropolitan. They treat him so good.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

He decided to show off when I was making the bed.

But seriously, if you live in the Dallas downtown area, take your pooch there pronto! Oliver tends to chill in the Oprah Room for the day before he gets the cut.

And yes, you read that correctly. Oprah Room.

Stampin It Up

April 7, 2010 by Kristina

I got a stamp made a couple of weeks ago over at RubberStamps.net. They did a fab job!

So far, I’ve only got one color of ink in a canary yellow, but clearly it’s a tad on the light side. I’m debating over mixing me own to match the Pantone color of my logo or just nix the yellows all together and stick with a gray.

I do, too.

Love this little ‘I Heart Texas‘ necklace.

My only problem is that the heart isn’t resting on Dallas. Clearly that was just an accident, right?

Service Bell

April 2, 2010 by Kristina

I’ve just been obsessed with the beauty that is the song ‘Service Bell‘ by Grizzly Bear and Feist. It came out on one of the BEST albums last year, Dark Was the Night.

The video is just as equally compelling. Quite the pair, no?

Happy Easter weekend!

Hasta la vista!

March 26, 2010 by Kristina

Well I’m heading out for a brief stay near San Antonio to visit the boyfriends family this weekend. Perhaps we will stroll down the River Walk, eat some Mexican pastries or maybe have a …

Okay, maybe all of the above? See you Tuesday, Dallas!
