Portfolio preview

Studio 67, Studio 67 Designs, Kristina Walton, Kristina Walton's portfolio, felt balls

I’ve been working on my portfolio for most of the day. Remember when I blogged about it way back in March? I hadn’t touched it since then. How embarrassing.

I’ve been uploading new stuff all day and plan to shoot full campaigns tomorrow (if there’s good light). Eventually all will be done because I’ve found a few nice places to submit my pieces to and I’m getting excited!

I need to get out of this apartment before I go crazy. Sleeping in all morning and taking lazy walks around the park with Oliver really does loose its appeal after awhile.

I promise.

Okay, enough complaining. Take a peek at my portfolio in progress.

PS: Don’t you just love the felt balls? I picked these up in Dallas at CityCraft a few months ago. I hear they are expanding their space. Another reason to make a quick trip back home. Happy Labor Day!

Hasta la vista!

March 26, 2010

Well I’m heading out for a brief stay near San Antonio to visit the boyfriends family this weekend. Perhaps we will stroll down the River Walk, eat some Mexican pastries or maybe have a …

Okay, maybe all of the above? See you Tuesday, Dallas!

Matte’s Uppercasings

March 10, 2010

I’m really excited to read the fifth issue of Uppercase Magazine in April. One of my most favorite illustrators, Matte Stephens, did the cover. Hoorah!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

His work is a mix of adventurous dreams influenced heavily by the 40s and 50s.

With cats! And birds! And scubas!

I could drink it all up.

And my most favorite, possibly for the title alone: ‘Alfred was obviously underdressed for his induction into the Adventurers Hall of Fame.’

Follow his blog or better yet buy a little something over at Velocity. Oh my, how I wish that store was a tad bit closer to the great state.

(Images via Matte Stephens‘ Etsy shop. Yeah, he’s there, too.)

PS: Are you reading Uppercase? I’m slightly obsessed. If you have a discarded issues from 1 or 2, let me send you my address, m’kay?

What type are you?

Find out what your type is here; it’s fun.

67 Lewis Road

December 4, 2009

This is really just so lovely, that I had to share.

I was looking up other things related to Studio 67, my design business, because I’m working on getting a much better portfolio site together. It turns out Studio 67 is so popular! Kinda scary and I really wish I had actually done more research two years ago, but that’s neither here nor there, this late in the game.

In any rate, this piece from the Sussex PhotoHistory popped up and I fell in love. So timeless in design, to think that this was all created by hand really puts it in perspective to me. The craftsmanship behind each drop cap and gorgeous lettering is just so inspiring, such a treasure. I’d love to learn more and get better at my own hand lettering and calligraphy.

Plus how cute is it that you can get enlargements made in oil, water colour or crayon? Where’s that option at Walgreen’s?

Still in love.

You’re still just as gorgeous 40 years ago, as you are today Helvetica.

PS: In the mood for some creepy, vintage YouTube fun? Watch The Helvetica Scenario.

I. Have. No. Idea.

Just like a circus.

August 22, 2009

Happy weekend everyone! I just bought this print. Clearly I have a thing for orange and an even bigger thing for schnauzers. I’m going to pretend that’s Oliver levitating Mr. Spencer.

I would really love to order the rest in the circus theme, but alas, that will have to be another day.

I snatched this off of someone’s Twitter background because it’s just gorgeous. It’s titled ‘Vintage Wallpaper’ and it seems to be seemless, so you could easily tile it for your desktop or any background of your liking. I can’t find the source (my usual look, it seems) but have the feeling it is indeed authentic vintage.

Feel free to grab the pic and do with it what you will. Enjoy!

Walters Wedding

August 2, 2009

What a weekend! Another long-time best friend (since fifth grade, actually) got hitched this past Saturday. Congrats to the new Mrs. Diane Hallford-Walters!

I had the pleasure of designing the entire wedding invitation suite, including the program for the two newlyweds. It was a lot of fun working with them, but celebrating the big day was the best reward!

In honor of Kenny and Diane, I illustrated their new little family with their dog Mink and kitty Snoop. I think it turned out well and was pretty excited to share it with them, and now you!

Congrats to the new couple, The Walters!

One potato, two potato

June 11, 2009

I won’t be blogging over any of my own craftiness over the next couple of weeks, as I pack up my belongings and move back to the 75204. So I thought I’d share some sites I LOVE and thing you need to LOVE too.

Three Potato Four is this fantastic little online store, filled with vintage and new home decor pieces and some design goodies.

As you can see from their current home page, I’m coveting this Brooklyn poster by designer Jim Datz. (First edition.)

Picture 1

It’s got other fun finds like these letterpress blocks for $24
Picture 2

or this graphic bird tray ain’t too bad either.
Picture 3

As far as their prints go, I’ve long-been admiring this orange/red flock print by Good Shape Design. It goes for $32 and is a steal. Apparently even Ty Pennington featured it in Home Magazine. Who knew?
Picture 4

I don’t know, maybe it’s just that it’s all photographed so sweetly or that it’s basically a designer’s computer come to life, but I love it and hope you do, too.
