MHB Gift Guide {2009 Style}

November 30, 2009

Welcome to the very first MHB Gift Guide! In the vein of a Cyber Monday, I figured I could round up a few virtual lovelies to help your online shopping fix.

I don’t think it’s entirely appropriate anymore for me to make a Wish List at my age because I don’t really need anything, I just have wants … lots and lots of them. So in that regard, this guide is filled with treasures that I fancy: from cooking essentials, paper products, affordable bling bling, designs goodness, and coffee-related items, of course. I like my coffee, what can I say?

Perhaps you’ll find a little something to add to your own list or even better, something to give.

Things We Love

If you have a chance, check out my spot on Rearranged Design. Ana has a feature called Things We Love, where I shared the story of my darling Tensor lamp.

Thanks again, Ana, for including me!

WE ARE 1976

November 17, 2009

I’m going to just gush here for a second, k?

Just got word that WE ARE 1976 is opening its doors this Friday. I’ve watched the space take shape for awhile now, as I drive down Henderson almost daily. When I watched the sign go up right next to The Pearl Cup I was thinking, “What is this 1976 sign, all cross-stitched and cute?”

They are kind of a hybrid of a shop, gallery and studio for some great designers here in Dallas, like letter presser Casey McGarr from Inky Lips Press and the like. Their site says they’ll sale everything from toys, clothes, jewelry, art goods and home decor. The best part is that they plan to keep it real, stressing super affordable prices on all of their covetable goods. It looks like they will host some pretty cool events and workshops as well.

Gushings aside, this looks to be a pretty major store, right here in my hood!

The Daily Grind

November 16, 2009

I would gander to say that is is what Oliver and Spencer to with 90 percent of their day …

Something to the effect of napping in the warmth of the sun, barking at other dogs through the window (because clearly they will hear your jealous yelps, four flights down) and a typical stare-off.

Spencer FTW! (The one on the right. Yes, the fat cat.)

mixed well: Adventures in Thanksgiving travels

November 16, 2009

mixedcd-header1

Admittedly this post is a tad early, but I’m ready to get these holidays started! I’m actually not traveling this Thanksgiving, but I figured you might be traveling … even if it’s just be from Big D to Funkytown. (That’s Dallas to Ft. Worth for you non-DFWers.)

And what does a good road trip or plane ride need besides great company? Good tunes, man. So in honor of the turkey that sacrificed himself (or tofu for all you weirdos), here’s some tryptophanic tunes. Bon Appetit!

1. Half Way Home • TV on the Radio
2. Two Weeks • Grizzly Bear
3. Shiny • The Decemberists
4. Hideaway • Karen O and the Kids
5. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want • She & Him
7. Turn a Square • The Shins
8. Albatross, Albatross, Albatross • Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band
9. Lisztomania • Phoenix
10. Dashboard • Modest Mouse
11. Shampoo Suicide • Broken Social Scene

Two Peas Got Hitched.

November 14, 2009

I was down in Austin last weekend celebrating with the new Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. My long time friend Jennifer got hitched to her beau Warren at a small and gorgeous ceremony in the Hill Country. They married in the chapel Jessica Simpson once said ‘I do’, so you can only imagine how stunning the church was.

But the reception … WOAH.

Jennifer has her degree in hospitality and worked at The Mansion at Judges’ Hill, so naturally that’s where they held the soiree. Um, can I just say that this place was Swanky with a capital S! Seriously, if you have any plans to venture down to A-town, book this place stat!

In honor of the happy duo, I designed this illustration to mark their happy day. These are so much fun to draw and I love giving them.

Wish the new Mr. and Mrs. E luck, as they are just about to take off on an adventure to California. And no, it’s not the traditional honeymoon, per se. They are leaving the great state of Texas and moving there.

Texas will really miss you guys!

The Dallas Flea

November 11, 2009

Woah. Dallas, you are making some mammoth changes. From new trains lines, to bridges, gorg. city parks and an internationally recognized Arts District, I feel like I am living in a completely different city.

But now what? Well on a slightly less city planning scheme, we are getting a totally fab new flea market! Yup, you heard me right, just like the great ones on the East Coast and such.

And it’s right here at South Side on Lamar. The web site is boasting some great Texas vendors, to boot. Many of them I know and heart from the Etsy Dallas scene, but some newbies (for me) are in the mix, too. I’m pretty over the moon about the whole thing.

Clear your calendars folks: December 5. Five bucks gets you in, so come on y’all!

Stella!

November 2, 2009

A little birdie just told me that stelladallas is giving 20% off your entire purchase 11/2 through 11/7. Happy One Year, guys!

Can’t figure out what to get? Might I recommend what I picked up in September?

I wouldn’t Dwell on it.

November 2, 2009

DwellStudio is on a major sale at Target. I mean major! All of their duvet sets are on sale for about $50. That’s 40 bucks off, it most cases.

I just love a good bargain, so I bought the ‘Foliage‘ duvet set, something I’ve secretly being eying for sometime. The deal is it’s ONLINE ONLY, so you won’t find this bargain in the stores. But it includes FREE shipping (woo hoo!), so there’s really no need to complain. I mean, it’s DwellStudio so is there any reason to complain in the first place?
