Egg Press Stitch Kits

September 28, 2009

Holy moly, are these little stitch kits cute. I mean, really?! Really! (Can you tell I’ve been watching my Weekend Update, Seth Meyers?)

Picture 2

Each kit comes with easy to follow instructions and two pieces of hand-screenprinted canvas, ready to stitch by hand or machine.

Egg Press Stitch Kits from Egg Press. Is it just me or are there like a million-billion great designers calling Portland home? :)

All swank.

I just love a good execution of a lovely fabric. This is such a classy idea for a headboard that I felt the need to share. The great part is, it not only makes a dramatic statement, but if you’re like me and tire quickly of your textiles, it’s an easy swap.

“Before” much?

September 25, 2009

Raquel sent me over a picture of the bar cart I mentioned in an earlier post. We are going for the “full makeover,” if you will, for Saucers & Milk. I mean, just look at it. But the after? Oh, it’s going to be sooooo worth it. Just you wait!

stelladallas

September 25, 2009

What can I say? I’m a sucker for paper products. And while I peruse Paper Source more than the average gal (it’s been known to be true), I’ve been wanting to take a ride over to stelladallas since I read about the swanky home store in Daily Candy months ago.

It’s a quaint little boutique, filled to the brim with any and everything I covet. Seriously, I could have brought just about everything home with me. From all of the letterpress cards, to the handmade pillows by the shop owner, I was in heaven.

And the home furnishings are probably the best part. Everything is vintage, lacquered in high gloss colors of magenta’s, cyan’s and and my current fav. color: yellow. But since I couldn’t bring home a new sofa, I settled on some office supplies from russell+hazel I’ve been wanting and some swell little thank you cards, that have a school-girl vibe on ruled paper, from Chicago-based Snow & Graham.

Lucky me. I got on their e-mail list, where they assured me they had only sent out four in the last year they’ve been open. You had me at trunk show, which I hear is in November. Can’t wait!

It’s official.

September 25, 2009

Can I just say how much a little “staycation” has changed my life? As cliche as the term is, it’s been really lovely to have these last three days off. (I’m slightly jealous that Daniel took the entire week off!) We both had lots-o-stuff on our ‘To Do’ list and I can honestly say that I can check off almost everything and it’s just Friday.

So what’s have I been up to? Well … drum roll please … I am officially announcing that I am the sole owner of my very own legit biz … Studio 67 {designs}. I’m practically hugging myself!

I finally had a chance to run down to the Records Building here in Dallas (see the pic I snapped earlier, above) and fill out the required paper work, so that I can do business as Studio 67 Designs. I had to actually add the “Designs” part to my business name because there’s another Studio 67 floating around out there. Who knew?

This marks a significant day for me, career-wise. Can’t wait to see what happens!

Cupcakes

September 24, 2009

I made cupcakes from scratch last week. That’s a big deal for me, as I’ve never really made anything from scratch before. I guess you could say I enjoy a good “box cake.” But lately I’ve been following Bakerella‘s blog and it has totally inspired me to get off my store-bought bum and make something!

I have stocked my pantry with the essentials and can now whip up anything I’m in the mood for, like these super sweet cake pops.

How completely yummy do these treats look?! I’m warning you though, once you visit her blog, you will feel the need to bake and bake and bake.

At least it would be if I had these super precious Metal Number Knobs from PB teen. And on clearance, to boot!

How it’s made. {Duex}

September 12, 2009

{This is part Duex of the ‘How it’s made’ post. See part Une here.}

After everything for the web was completed for Saucers & Milk, it was time to move on the the printed materials by Studio 67.

I knew from the beginning, I wanted to include a tag on the plate stand with each order that went out, especially if we ever get into craft fairs and have a booth.

I bought the Clever Lever Extra Giga Craft Punch in 2.5 inches. Then I designed a tag in Illustrator, with a .25 bleed, for the blue on the outside. After having them printed on thick card stock, I cut each by hand, punched a hole and added a bit of ribbon.

Finally, I knew that sending our lovely upcycled vintage plate stands was going to be a wee bit of an issue. They are not the most delicate things, but certainly not the most sturdy.

So I created a shipping label that not only included the essentials: return address and sender info., but also something that clearly marks that the box is, indeed, “extremely fragile.” These were printed on full sheet labels by Avery and hand cut by yours truly.

There you have it folks. We at S/M are 100% ready for your business. In fact, we made four more stands today, because we are so buzzed and happy to be making something we heart, big time.

We here at MHB are so excited! Raquel and I made our first sale at the shop, faster than I could close Firefox, after I put the listings up.

And while that’s just peachy, I was a bit overwhelmed knowing I didn’t have all of the designs ready. So after staying up way past my bedtime most nights this week, everything worked out and our first package is on its way to San Fransisco.

So what have I been doing at Studio 67, exactly? Wel, in this post, we’re going to focus on the web designs. Let’s go!

First, with any good Etsy shop, I knew it was not only important to have a good name, but equally impressive logo, banner and avatar. These are the face of your company and you want people to actually think it looks like you know what you are doing.

Another interesting tid bit of a good Etsy shop? Good photography.

It’s so sad when I see someone’s products for sale, but the pic is dark and out of focus and it’s hard to even really see what the darn thing looks like.

before-after

Raquel (hire her, she’s great!) took the photos and I edited them, using a nifty Photoshop action I found on Twitter.

It’s called Seventies and it makes me so happy. You can download them here. They are all quite wonderful.

Up next, part Duex: the printed materials.

modern economy

September 10, 2009

modern economy is having an absolutely fab. sample sale. We’re talking 80% off! I ended up with these two things:

Mateo Ilasco Nap Pillow

yhst-57534691450244_2071_40385387

and the “Aqua Birds” print by Allymoon

And I’m more than a little upset that this pillow is all sold out! I’ve had a craving for the Heather Lins Home 3-D Eye Chart Pillow for more than a few months. It was actually in the sample sale for a whopping $30. (It normally runs around $100.)

But over all, I came home with some major discounts, so what do I have to complain about?
